Project Update: The Box Seating Improvement

Oct 1, 2019 | Featured Stories, Past Projects, The Box

With the support of the Rotary Club of Cataraqui-Kingston and H’art supporters, we delivered THE BOX Seating Improvement Project and its goal to provide more accessible seating options and better sight-lines for audience members attending productions in our community-theatre space, THE BOX.

In late August, three sets of 3-tier “tip’n’roll” bleacher-style seats were delivered and assembled and now provide seating for 76 audience members with additional room left on the floor for reserved-seating for those with mobility issues or similar challenges.

We have now increased floor space to accommodate audience members with wheelchairs and mobility devices, greatly reduced tripping hazards, and some have noted that the system we chose may vibrate with music improving the experience for audience members who are Deaf. Dozens of community groups who have used THE BOX will benefit for years to come including The Conservatory, Deaf Spirit Theatre, PeerLess Productions and many more.

We offer our sincere thanks to Rotary Club of Cataraqui-Kingston.

Inclusion is a good investment. We are continuing THE BOX Improvement project and we will continue to seek investment in improved lighting, sound and other accommodations. Explore how you can help!
