What We’re Creating: Both Sides Now

Feb 19, 2026 | Current Projects, Featured Stories, H'art Studio

Both Sides Now Winter Spring 2026 A season for H'artists to turn their early stories — and the perspectives of those they love — into a new show through dance, theatre, and arts workshops.

What’s Happening in H’art Studio Now?

This Winter/Spring season, our Both Sides Now theme invites H’art Studio artists to explore their own stories — and the perspectives of those they love — through dance, theatre, and the arts. Through workshops in movement, visual arts, storytelling, and collaboration, you will discover new ways to express connection, resilience, and creativity. Every workshop session builds toward a shared April performance, where these experiences come to life on stage, celebrating the journeys of both artists and their families.

H’art Staff & Community Artist Workshops

Dance & Movement

  • Waltz & Partnered Dance – with Abi: Learn and perform a waltz!
  • Community Dance Classes – with Vanessa: Develop movement skills and group dances.

Music & Sound

  • Original Songwriting – with Barb: Write and a song about change and the future.
  • Transition Sound Design – with James: Design layered soundscapes for the show’s transition films.
  • Stopmotion Music – with Audra: Create a piece of music to accompany stop-motion animation.

Storytelling & Visual Arts

  • Storytelling & Cardboard Landscapes – with Kyla: Explore narrative and build imaginative sets for the show.
  • Memory Dioramas – with Rhonda: Create miniature childhood spaces for filmed transitions.
  • Printmaking & Creative Skill-Building – with Tracy: Use new presses and tools to transform art into prints.
  • Wearable Art – with Syd: Design scarves and t-shirts that reflect dances and personal stories to be used as costumes onstage.

Professional Theatre Mentorship & Rehearsals

This season, we are delighted to offer professional theatre mentorship sessions, made possible through our partnership with PeerLess Productions.

  • Dance & Stop-Motion Films – Anna Sudac of PeerLess Productions: Creating and filming dances used in the performance’s transitions.
  • Production and Rehearsal Workshops with Kathryn MacKay and PeerLess’ Production team: Be mentored as you explore and refine elements that will appear onstage.

All of this creativity comes together onstage on April 21. Details and ticket information coming soon.

This season is about learning, collaboration, and creative growth — giving participants the chance to experiment, tell their stories, and see their ideas come to life, both in the studio and onstage.

The season draws inspiration from our 2020 production, Small Things, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the pandemic. Including its dance workshops and collaborative choreography with Menka Nagrani of Les Productions des pieds des mains.
