H’art Centre’s 20th Anniversary Celebration Gets a Boost

Friends offer early support to upcoming celebratory production, A Gift From Martadella

H’art Centre’s effort to mount a major theatrical production to mark their 20th anniversary in 2018 got a boost from Josée Thériault of Thériault Wealth Management Team, RBC Wealth Management of RBC Dominion Securities this past weekend.

Thériault, a veteran investment professional, active member of the Kingston community, and early H’art supporter, presented a $10,000 cheque to the organization at their latest exhibit, Lessons Learned and Loved.

“I’m so very proud of Hart celebrating twenty years of providing a unique and enriching educational experience and I am so happy that I can support them in some way,” said Thériault. “I am really looking forward to the show.”

The funds sponsor the development and production of A Gift From Martadella ––a bold reboot of H’art Centre’s first play that catches up with its original characters, 20 years later.

The Martadella project is more than a performance; it is a major undertaking that reflects an entire year’s worth of learning and effort. Over 50 adults with developmental disabilities and more than 20 professional artists have been engaged in everything from script development, workshops, rehearsals, as well as prop, costume, lighting, sound, and set design. The play, to be directed by Kathryn MacKay, will hit the stage of the Isabel Bader on April 20-21, 2018.

The community is rallying around to make it happen.

Already, the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts has underwritten the rental costs. The Ballytobin Foundation, a philanthropic organization that helps to give access to performance space at the Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, has made significant donations helping with the front of house and production costs. Both organizations have ensured that H’art Centre can bring Martadella to the Isabel stage.

“I’m excited our participants will have this opportunity to celebrate all they have achieved through this show,” said Katherine Porter, Executive Director of H’art Centre, “But I am equally grateful to be sharing this milestone with friends who have believed in us for so long.”

H’art is grateful to our signature sponsor Josée Thériault of Thériault Wealth Management Team, RBC Wealth Management of RBC Dominion Securities and our important supporters:
