Newton & Alice: The Musical

Apr 26, 2013 | H'art Events - 2014, H'art Studio

Newton & Alice: The Musical is SOLD OUT!

H’art School is proud to announce Newton & Alice: The Musical! will be the first performance by its students in H’art’s new fully-accessible performing arts space, The Box located at 237 Wellington Street in Kingston. This lively and inspiring play will run from April 29-May 1 at 6:30 p.m. each evening. This original production is based on the third book, Newton & Alice, in our popular illustrated Newton book series. The book will launch at The Box during the run of the play.

Our students are honing their skills in art, theatre, dance, music, media arts and literary arts classes to bring this production to the stage. Artistic director Kathryn MacKay, choreographer Melissa Mahady Wilton and award-winning composer David Archibald are collaborating with them on this amusing but touching spectacular about Newton, a vulnerable young man who confronts life’s daily challenges with an open and kind heart. In this new book and play, Newton will learn what it takes to be a true friend.

The evolution of Newton

H’art published Newton Rides the Bus in 2006 and Newton Finds a Home in 2007. The later was adapted into a musical a year later and Newton Finds a Home: The Musical was performed to sold-out crowds and rave reviews. A local critic noted the students proved to have “great comedic timing”.

Newton & Alice: The Musical! will hit the stage thanks to the support of signature sponsor The Thériault Wealth Management Team | RBC Dominion Securities and the support of Froukje Staal, the Ministry of Health Promotion, the Kingston Whig Standard, and KINCORE Holdings Limited. We gratefully acknowledge the support of over 50 community supporters who helped H’art to expand to include The Box.

Matinee for youth sold-out

To help raise awareness of the ability of people with intellectual disabilities among the next generation, H’art School has scheduled four matinee performances. We offered free matinee tickets to local schools and youth groups and these tickets were snapped up. The entire matinee run (April 29-May 2 at 10:30 a.m) is now sold out.

Evening tickets are available. Tickets are $15. You can purchase tickets and reserve copies of the new book by contacting H’art by email or 613-545-1392.
