H’art Wins Access Award

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is December 3, 2012

At a reception today, the City, in partnership with the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC), honoured H’art School as this year’s recipient of its International Day of Persons with Disabilities Access Award.

H’art was nominated for “The Box,” a fully accessible, mixed-ability performing arts studio and presentation space. H’art Centre, 237 Wellington St., is a non-profit, charitable organization helping people with intellectual disabilities and those who face barriers to reach their highest potential through arts and education.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities Access Award was established last year to recognize a person, group or organization making a significant contribution beyond legislated requirements, towards improving access for persons with disabilities in Kingston.

The Access Award’s selection committee included the Chair of MAAC and members from its Built Environment, Information/Communication/Employment and Transportation working groups. To find out more about this award go towww.cityofkingston.ca/accessaward.
