Summer Program in Full Swing

Jun 11, 2024 | Current Projects, Featured Stories, H'art Studio

Summer at H’art Studio is a time to unwind from the big events of the season prior and recharge for the upcoming creative season! So, H’art Studio artists are taking part in a relaxed, creative journey this summer –– we like to say we will be exploring the natural world, from our own backyard to the stars, and discovering our place of belonging in it! All summer, we will offer workshops on music, sculpture, drawing, and movement. We are taking local field trips and connecting with guest artists who share wisdom about the earth and cosmos. By the end of the summer, we will unite the workshops for a showcase performance, creating connections with our community. It’s a summer to discover our place of belonging in the vastness of Life!

You can start here by exploring our workshop summaries:

NATURE STUDY: Every journey starts at home! Explore nature around us, draw and observe plants, insects, and animals. We will be taking regular walks to create an illustrated logbook of our findings. Select your best to make into a painting, card, poster or our collaborative showcase backdrop.

BODIES IN MOTION: Discover how your body works, stays healthy through movement, and have some fun while moving like planets in space! Choreograph a dance piece set to music that captures the essence of orbiting planets in motion.

ATMOSPHERIC ORFF MUSIC: Explore songs about nature, health, and planets while expanding rhythmic awareness and making music together. Create the score for a collaborative showcase together! Led by community artist Audra Phillips.

EXPLORATION WORKSHOP: Let’s embark on a creative journey together. From our Kingston home, we will explore the depths of our galaxy. Discover the make-up of planets, ponder the existence of extraterrestrial life, and watch space phenomena as it happens in real-time. Create paper-maché dioramas, sculptures, and write your summer space travel story. Stories and visual arts creations will be part of a collaborative showcase at the end of the summer!

We’ve got some exciting field trips in the works including, the Queen’s Observatory, Miller Museum of Geology, and Museum of Health Care. We will also be inviting guests speakers and artists to drop by, so follow our adventure on social media!

We are grateful for the support of the Harry E. Foster Foundation as well as annual support from The City of Kingston’s Arts Fund and the Ontario Arts Council for this project.
