A recent research study showed that, without exception, all H’art School participants found an iPad assisted them in their participation in H’art’s Inclusive Post Secondary Education (IPSE) program at Queen’s. Some participants said that they found their semester was more successful at Queen’s than in the past, due to the iPad. Many participants spoke about how they used the calendar application to manage class times, responsibilities and everyday activities.

All of the main applications (apps) were used, however, most reported that the use of the Calendar, Safari and Notes apps were most helpful. H’art students even began to advocate for applications that would meet the demands of the Queen’s classes. “For instance, they need something that can be used as a separate alarm and opens readings from the teacher.”

This study was conducted thanks to the Community Outreach Centre (supported by Imperial Oil) of the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University. The Centre provided 5 iPads and a research assistant from the Faculty of Education. The purpose of the Outreach Centre is to enable the Faculty of Education to better integrate educational services with community groups.
